Re-using waste - or using waste again - is an ideal way to save resources, save energy and save space in landfill sites. It also saves you money! Re-using waste is even more valuable than recycling waste as it takes no more energy to do it.

Re-using waste at school

There are many ways in which waste can be used again in schools.
For example, you can:

• Use paper that has already been used on one side in your computer printer and only use brand new paper when it's really needed
• Use a plastic bottle for your drink and refill it each day

Re-using waste at home

We used to be much better at re-using waste than we are now. We need to get back into good habits by:

• Getting milk from the milkman. A milk bottle gets used up to 25 times on average and the foil top can be recycled.
• Refilling plastic bottles and containers or using them for storage.
• Always taking a bag with you when you go shopping.
• Using waste paper for telephone notes.
