Waste Reduction, Re-use and Recycling
At
least half of what we throw away should not be regarded as rubbish at all, but
rather as a valuable resource. We all need to change our habits! First we should consider the waste
problem when we're choosing what to buy, then we should think
about the alternatives before we just throw things away.
We need to remember the 3Rs: waste reduction, re-use and recycling.
Reduction: avoiding the creation of so much waste in the first place. For example, buying and using less, not buying things wrapped in lots packaging and avoiding the use of disposable items that get thrown away after being used only once.
Re-use: using things again and again. For example, refilling drinks bottles and re-using envelopes.
Recycling: the reprocessing of specific materials into other products.
