Waste Education in Action

The Recycling Consortium's dedicated waste education projects have been running since 1998, with the aim of promoting the 3Rs message:
to reduce, re-use and recycle waste at home and at school.

We offer assemblies and curriculum-linked workshops, professional teachers' resources, assistance in setting up recycling and composting schemes and in-service training.

This part of the site includes details of our projects, resources, case studies, contact details of artists who can make marvellous things from recycled rubbish and simple, factual information for pupils and teachers about waste issues.

North Somerset Case Studies
The North Somerset Waste Education Project is our youngest education project, and schools in the area are engaging with the 3Rs with enormous enthusiasm. School recycling rates in September 2006 were a massive 80% higher than at the same time in 2005! Click here for examples of what's happening in schools across the county.

Composting in School

Composting is a fantasitc way of recycling kitchen and garden waste, and is becoming increasingly popular in schools. A healthy compost bin is a great resource for KS1 and KS2 teachers to use in a wide range of science topics.

Click here for advice about how to start composting, information on how to get compost bins for your school, and top composting tips from other schools.
