Steel
Facts
3
out of 4 cans produced in Britain are made of steel. The rest are made of aluminium.
20 billion cans are produced all together.
2
billion steel cans are recycled every year in Britian. That's about 7 million
a day!
Steel
is made of iron ore, coke (made from coal, not Coca-Cola!), limestone and some
scrap steel.
Steel
cans are often called tin cans because they have a very thin layer of tin to
protect the surface of the can.
Steel
cans today are 40% lighter than they were 30 years ago.
In
Bristol last year, 450 tonnes of steel cans were collected and recycled.
Steel
cans are recycled and made into made into more cans, parts of bridges, paper
clips and lots more.
You
can make 4 recycled steel cans for the same energy as making one new one.
